XING KONG:It’s always a question for an artist to get their inspiration, we all know that your tracks are special, you said “Inspire Yourself”, so how do you normally get inspired?

Au5:I find inspiration in so many things - people, art, music, science, abstract ideas, things in my immediate environment, etc. I believe infinite inspiration is everywhere but depends on our point of view. "Inspire yourself" is a call to action - to let oneself become inspired by the world around them and the world within them. Becoming inspired requires me to have a desire for it, as well as a belief that there is always something to be discovered close by. I'll tune into my emotions and let them guide me until exciting ideas, sounds and imagery begin to surface in my mind. Usually starting off with a blank canvas, exploring synths, having no goal but to experiment and have fun with it will lead to some of my best ideas and music. Overall concepts of science, technology, spirituality, and the cosmos give me a lot of creative energy.

XING KONG:You are not limited by one genre, it's amazing how well you do it all, every track you made has fans who love them, but do you have one genre that you think you good at most, or you like most?

Au5:I love so many kinds of music as well as creating and exploring many different styles so it's hard to say. The fusion of trance and dubstep does have a special place in my heart though and I think I am probably best at it because I've explored it more than other styles. The majority of people seem to enjoy my trance dubstep the most as well.

XING KONG:Do you like trance? We can find many trance details in your works, in your earlier career days you even labelled Trancestep and many people still use this word to describe your work, so how do you think of the trance elements in your work?

Au5:I love trance, in fact that is what inspired me to start making electronic music over a decade ago. The energy, the emotional/melodic emphasis, and the sonic vastness of it was irresistible to explore. The concept of trance creates environments in my mind, and I feel a lot of freedom to explore and recreate those environments in my own music.

XING KONG:I think you are not only unlimited by music genre, but also a real artist that unlimited by art form, you designed your own cover art, rendered 3D model, made your own music video, that's unbelievable! How did you achieve this?

Au5:I've always been a very visual thinker and have loved visual art since I was a child. I used to draw a lot, and my parents are also artists so I've learned a lot from them at a young age. In 2013 I started learning 3D software and loved it. I have a strong vision of what my music is supposed to "look" like and figured it was better to learn how to create what's in my head than to try to explain it to other artists to create for me. I like doing everything creative by myself.

XING KONG:Many young music producers feel hard to start their career when self-teaching, do you have any advice for them?

Au5:There are more music production and music business resources/videos/courses/interviews now than ever before so I'd suggest finding those that match the goals of the artist and what they want to do with their careers. If an artist is struggling to find their voice or complete songs, my best advice is to explore, experiment, and create as much as possible - it's easy to get stuck from overthinking and over planning. A career won't happen overnight so it's best to take the time to enjoy the creative process and not restrict oneself to a specific path or what they think they should be making.

XING KONG:What is your happiest moment during music production, when you wrote a good melody, when you made a cool bass, when you came out with a new arrangement or?

Au5:There are many stages of producing that really excite me. There always comes a point in the writing process where the song seems to write itself. After I have a good progression with a nice sounding instrument I often become flooded with melodic ideas and it's a pleasure to just explore them all to see what sounds the best. Another exciting point is at the last 70% of the song, where I'm over the hump, and I can have a ton of fun experimenting with little tweaks and fitting new basses into the last drop of songs. Knowing that the song is almost done is motivating and makes it easier to explore freely.

XING KONG:You like to take audiences through a different, magnificent, divine journey, I really admire this, I think your worlds are full of fantasies, also they are cosmic, I always use “幻境” to describe this feeling, which means fantasy dreamland in Chinese, can you describe some of your worlds with detailed words to us?

Au5:Many of my songs paint a picture of utopian worlds that are both futuristic and natural with many twists and turns throughout. My worlds span from cataclysmic scenes and sci-fi space battles, to epic natural landscapes, to abstract psychedelic realms.

XING KONG:To me, a basshead, Alien Weapon was my favorite Au5 track last year, I even wrote a long article about this track, I feel this track is like an exquisite liquid mazarine pearl. Can you list some of your favorite tracks through the past Au5 decade and tell us why?

Au5:Thank you! There are so many songs of mine that I am fond of that it is hard to determine my favorites. Answers, The Journey, Crossroad, and The Mythos Land are special because of how authentically emotional they are to me. Crystal Mathematics, Eon Remix, Infinite Wings, and Alien Weapon are some of my most technically ambitious songs in my opinion.

XING KONG:I feel like moon is special to you, you have moon in your logo, you wrote the track Return To Moonland, I think moon may be a land that’s for your heart to rest, it lets you to feels where to go when you got lost, or a secret special place for you? So what does this really mean to you?

Au5:The moon is symbolically significant to me because it represents emotionality, rhythm, change/transformation, and is massive - aspects that my music reflect. "Moonland" is a metaphorical, utopian world that is home to my soul and where I find solace in. My future projects will reveal more details about this world. It's only the beginning :)
